Real, Smart People

Challenge: Promote Mount Sinai’s most innovative minds without stinking of self-promotion.

Solution: A seven-part series of mini-profiles that captures the wonder of science and the unique personalities pushing medicine forward. “Real, Smart People” is compact and sound-rich, a feast for the ears that appeals to curious listeners wherever they are. I produced the series from soup to nuts.

Top three moments from “Real Smart People”:

  1. Neurosurgeon Joshua Bederson’s description of nerve tissue: “One millimeter in diameter or less, and it can have the consistency of wet tissue paper.” 🤯

  2. Virologist Adolfo García-Sastre’s butterfly collection: “A virus is more difficult to catch [than a butterfly]! … A virus you don't see, they are very sneaky.”

  3. Addiction researcher Yasmin Hurd’s Post-It affirmation: “I have only one sticky on my computer …’gain control.’ And I actually crossed out ‘gain’ into ‘take control.’”
